About us – our background
My name is Alex Luch, and I created this blog to document my journey to relocate from Greater Boston area of the United States to a country the locals call Sakartvello, also known as Georgia.
I was born in Kharkov, Ukraine (part of Soviet Union back then) and grew up there. In addition to a regular school, I attended a music school since I was 4 and learned to play violin, which I practiced in various settings – youth symphony orchestra, local rock band and side gigs at restaurants (where I would be able to get free food in addition to a modest fee – certainly a welcome addition!)
I attended and graduated from Kharkov Music College, and then moved to the US in 1994 to attend Berklee College of Music, with a major in Music Production and Engineering. I graduated from there in 1998 and since that time I moved into IT field, where I worked for many interesting companies, including large enterprises (State Street Bank, CVS Health, IBM, Amazon/AWS) and a few small startups.
If you are curious about what I do for work, please feel free to visit my LinkedIn profile and my consulting business site.
By 2022 I was living in a nice house in Boston suburbs with my wife Julia, 3 kids and some pets: 2 cats, a dog, and 17 other animals. My wife has been in the US for a while as well, and we both were considering trying to move somewhere new and see how life is in a new country. After considering multiple options, we decided to move to Georgia.
To support this move, we re-homed the majority of our animals (chickens, ducks, parrots, chameleon, guinea pig) and left only our two cats and a dog, who we plan to relocate with us.
