If you are a minimalist and have no stuff to speak of – you will not need to worry about this part. If you are like me, and had things like RV, kayaks, trailers, stationary power tools like multiple saws, air tools, power washers, chippers, shredders, lawn mowers and so on – start selling these early. I found that listing items at 1/3 of their price “new” tends to lead to a quick-ish sale (in most cases).
I used to have better luck listing things for sale on Craigslist, but lately Facebook marketplace has been more efficient. I reached out to my friends and they bought a few things as well, at bigger discounts.
Main thing to keep in mind is that Georgian customs will charge you 18% import tax on all of your used personal belongings, and additional 12% on some more expensive items. In customs declaration they ask to list every item, no matter how insignificant, like pairs of socks and so on. So if you are planning to ship your belongings to Georgia, you need to budget not only for the cost of shipping a container or a few boxes, but also for paying customs fees to import them.
My recommendation: sell or give away all/most of your furniture and large items, and non-power tools. Ship items that will cost a lot more here when bought new (keep in mind 18% VAT on everything over $100). I will share more details on my approach to this in a separate post.
